A S Murthy – the new CEO of Satyam

February 5, 2009

Hyderabad, India.  Feb 5th, 4:30 PM.

I opened the mailbox and there it was the much awaited mail from our leaders about the appointment of a new CEO. The board of directors comprising Deepak Parekh, Kiran Karnik and others have appointed Mr. A S Murthy (ASM) as the new CEO of the company. The board which was chaired by Mr. Achuthan along with the advisors were convinced that an internal leader was the need of the hour and also ASM will take up the responsibility, effective immediately.

About ASMA S Murty (known as ‘ASM’) has been with Satyam since Jan 1994. He has seen Satyam growing from less than 100 associates to more than 50,000 associates, during this period. Currently, he is responsible for Delivery Excellence (in his capacity as Chief Delivery Officer) and also Leadership Development. As part of Leadership Development, ASM integrates Satyam’s Real Time Leadership Center and Satyam Learning World. He is also responsible for optimal utilization of Human Resources. Prior to this, he played several key roles (like Head – Human Resources, Head – Insurance vertical etc). ASM reviews all Asset Businesses (Support processes and Service Offerings) at Satyam. His mission is to enable ordinary people perform extraordinary tasks through right orientation, process-centric approaches and continual learning.

An electrical engineer from National Institute of Technology (Warangal), ASM joined Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) after completing his Masters’ degree (in School of Automation) from the Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) in ’81 and handled many key roles prior to joining Satyam.

In other developments, Homi R Kushrokhan and Partho S Dutta have been appointed as special advisors to the board in a move aimed at strengthening management and financial areas. Another significant development is that the board has confirmed receiving bank sanctions for a total sum of Rs.600 Crores (US $ 130 million) as a planned infusion towards working capital requirements.

With all these significant developments today, a sense of hope prevails now that we have a captain to steer the ship. Lets hope in these difficult times amidst growing concerns of take over and loss of credibility, that winter in our lives is slowly coming to an end. And we should prepare for the spring and summer ahead. Brighter times are ahead…:)
